Day 5: YAY, it's SPORTS DAY! Friday, April 19, 2013 Many seasoned trip participants looked forward to Sports Day, an event in which local schoolchildren participate in various races. Children are divided into teams - Red, Yellow, and Blue. We served as cheerleaders for the races, each choosing a team and dressing in their color. All were winners, as new friends were made and much fun was had by all.  
Meanwhile, back at Camp Hope, folks from Ursinus got to work painting the Camp in order to spruce things up.    
A few of us decided to return to Miss Helen's house to finish our work there, rather than participate in Sports Day. Miss Helen and her family were so grateful for the work we were able to accomplish.
Once the morning festivities were through, we made out way to YS Falls to enjoy the natural splendor of the Jamaican countryside. We spent our time on the rope swing, swimming, hiking the landscape, and relaxing as we took in the beautiful views.

About the Adventure When: March 2-9, 2013 Where: Westmoreland, Jamaica What: 12 Moravian College students plus another 6 members of the college and seminary community will participate in a week of community service in some of the poorest areas in the western region of Jamaica. The work projects for the week include painting an orphanage, two elementary schools, and a youth camping facility. Schedule: Departure from the HUB at 1:00am on Saturday morning for a 6:00am flight on Caribbean Airlines from New York JFK International Airport. The first two days will provide opportunities to visit beaches, tour a typical tourist resort, and the option of worship on Sunday morning. Monday through Friday provides a routine for work projects in the mornings and early afternoons. Late afternoons include trips to the beach and other attractions, ending with evening reflection sessions. There will be campfires, climbing waterfalls, craft shopping at the market, and an abundance of Jamaican cuisine. Blog Archives |
